About this piece
We all have one in our lives... a true clown. The one who has to cancel a date because she set her hair on fire with the curling iron. The one who, at the garden party, insists on showing the kids how hard he can kick a ball — and ends up sending it through the window and into the living room. The one who always calls ten minutes after you were supposed to meet, panting into the phone: “Whew, I might be two minutes late.”
Yes, we all know the Clown. And we love them anyway. Because even if the Clown is clumsy, chaotic, and comically unlucky, we can’t help but care for them. Because deep down, we know: it’s also the Clown who shows up when we need them most.
This one’s for you. You, our clown. The one who doesn’t just send us home in a taxi when we’ve had too much — but comes with us, holds our hair, undresses us, tucks us in, and sleeps on the floor just to make sure we’re okay. This is for you, our wonderful clown — the only one who always picks up the phone at 3 AM when he’s left us. It’s a tribute to you, Clown — because we know you’re there when everything falls apart. For years, I’ve thought about what true friendship really means. And I’ve come to the conclusion that, when you boil it all down, for me it’s two things: loyalty and forgiveness. I have friends who are good at both. And I had this deep urge to celebrate them through this piece. But how do you fit love, loyalty, forgiveness, and humor into a single print? This is my attempt: a puffin in a clown hat.
