About this piece
Everything has a beginning. This place is no exception.
According to legend, the first Norwegian Vikings established a parliament on this peninsula in Tórshavn back in 825 AD. Since then, Tinganes has been the gathering point for the Faroese parliament, making it one of the oldest parliamentary meeting places in the world. At the tip of the peninsula lies Skansapakkhusið, which today remains the main building of the Government of the Faroe Islands.
