About this piece
The puffin – or as it is commonly known in folk tradition, the "søpapegøje" – is one of the most beloved animals in the northern hemisphere. This is not only because they are incredibly charming to look at, but also because they hold a central place in the North Atlantic culture and self-understanding.

Each year, millions of puffins return to the place where they themselves were once hatched. Here, they breed, raise their young, and then return to the solitary life far out at sea. All this, only to repeat the process again the following year.

Today, the puffin is a vulnerable species whose population is threatened. Therefore, many countries have fortunately introduced visitation restrictions in the areas where they breed. This has had a very positive impact on their population.

These photographs of puffins are intended as a reminder of how important it is to protect nature so that future generations can also enjoy it.
