About this piece
As is well known, beloved things have many names. In local speech, the oldest area in Tórshavn is called Reyn. The area is a small gem in the center of Tórshavn, tucked away between two harbors – the marina on one side and the country’s lifeline on the other, namely the industrial harbor. Reyn is compressed charm in a very small space. The area is therefore filled with narrow paths between tightly packed, ancient, and traditional Faroese houses with grass on the roofs. While some of the houses date back to the 14th century, many Faroese still call these beautiful wooden houses their home.
