About this piece
Year after year, tourists travel to the beautiful landscapes high up north – just to spend a magical – albeit fleeting – moment with the small, curious, and shy bird: the puffin. And year after year, the puffin returns to the colony where it was hatched. It does so to breed in a safe and secure environment. While the number of tourists has increased, the puffin population has decreased in the northern regions. Pollution, habitat reduction, and mass tourism have driven them away. In these regions, they are an essential part of biodiversity, which is illustrated through the rainbow in these three paintings. The puffin will always be a reminder to us to be just as curious and respectful of nature as the puffin is.
