About this artwork
It's not easy growing up with the feeling that you're not like all the other children. It leaves deep marks on us. Aske experienced this firsthand. Aske never thought about not being like the others in the colony. He did think about being the only one with freckles, but beyond that, it wasn't something he dwelled on. On the contrary, he was just a happy little bird, getting through the day with a big smile. But the others teased him about his beak being different. Aske had to endure so much before finally meeting the love of his life, Pedro, who came from a completely different colony far away. It was Pedro who taught Aske that beauty lies in our nuances... our differences; and that we don't all look alike. It's up to us to take each other's hands - or wings - and give the world all the love it deserves. Today, Aske's motto is that we all have our own shade... and no matter what color it is, it's beautiful in itself.
