About the photo
In the Faroese village Gjógv lies one of the most breathtaking gorges on the Faroe Islands. This gorge have for centuries been used by locals as a natural harbor, from where fishermen traversed the dangerous cliffs to reach the open Atlantic. The rails leading inland from the waterfront have long been used to pull boats to safety from the hazardous sharp cliffs.
